A Centrifugal pump is rotodyanmic pump which use a rotating impeller which increase the pressure of a fluid. Centrifugal pumps are commonly used to move the liquids through a piping system. The fluid enters the pump impeller along or in rotating axis and is accelerated by the impeller which flows radially outward into a diffuser or volute chamber from where it exits into the downstream piping system.
A centrifugal pump containing two or more impellers is called a multistage centrifugal pump. The impellers may be mounted on the same shaft or on different shafts. Multistage Centrifugal Pump is generally used for two vital reasons - to produce high head and to discharge large quantity of liquid.
The Efficiency of the Centrifugal Pump can be affected by wrong design, installation, which causes wasting a lot of energy.
The Efficiency of the pump is the quantity of energy that is used to push the liquid through the pump, from pump inlet to pump outlet divided by the energy put into the pump as electricity.
The Energy consumption depends upon the flow required, the hight to which liquid is to lift and length of the pipeline.
